How to Care for Your Human Hair Wig

Proper care helps preserve the quality of the hair, maintain movement and shine, and extend the life of your investment.

Washing Your Human Hair Wig

Washing removes product buildup, oils, and environmental residue. Over-washing can dry the hair, so only wash when necessary. Typically this will be between 8-15 wears (or even more!)

1. Use lukewarm water to thoroughly wet the hair.
2. Apply a sulfate-free, moisturizing shampoo designed for dry or color-treated hair.
3. Gently smooth the shampoo through the hair, working downward from mid-lengths to ends.
4. Avoid scrubbing, twisting, or bunching the hair.
5. Rinse thoroughly with cool water until all shampoo is removed.
6. Gently squeeze out excess water and blot with a towel. Do not wring or twist.

TIP: Whenever possible, wash your wig on a wig block or mannequin head rather than holding it in your hands. This helps keep the hair flowing in the correct direction, prevent hairs from being pushed back through the lace, protect the knots and maintain the overall shape of the wig.

Conditioning and Moisture Care

Conditioning is essential for keeping human hair wigs soft and manageable.

After washing, apply a deep moisturizing conditioner or mask from mid-shaft to ends.
1. Avoid the lace, knots, and cap area.
2. Leave on for 10–20 minutes.
3. Rinse thoroughly with cool water.
4. Once dry, apply a small amount of lightweight oil or serum to the ends only to prevent dryness and maintain shine.

Styling Your Human Hair Wig

Human hair wigs can be styled, but proper technique is important to avoid damage.

Always use a heat protectant before applying heat.
1. When blow-drying, use a low heat setting and work in sections.
2. For curling or straightening, keep tools at or below 360°F or less.
3. Avoid excessive or daily heat styling, as this can shorten the lifespan of the hair.

Preventing Tangling and Shedding

Some tangling and light shedding are normal, but gentle handling minimizes wear.

1.Use a wide-tooth comb or soft bristle brush.
2. Start detangling at the ends and work upward.
3. Detangle gently before and after wearing.
4. Avoid aggressive brushing or pulling, especially near the lace.

Proper Storage

Correct storage helps preserve the shape and condition of your wig. When not in use, store your wig on a mannequin head or wig stand.
Keep away from direct sunlight, heat, and humidity. For travel, store your wig in its box or a protective wig bag.

Extending the Life of Your Wig

1. Limit heat styling whenever possible.
2. Deep condition regularly to maintain softness and shine.
3. Avoid harsh or alcohol-based products.
4. Handle the lace area gently at all times.
5. Brush lightly as needed.
